NIMEGG 2023: The members of the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) are not ashamed of themselves by leaving their spiritual responsibilities for mundane political engagements.

A renowned group, the Nigeria Muslims for Equity and Good Governance (NIMEGG) has berated the members of the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over their unmistakable partisan disposition towards the Tinubu/Shetima 2023 agenda.

In a statement signed by NIMEGG spokesman in Abuja on Thursday (14/07/2022), Mallam Abu Abdullah said if CAN as a religious body does not care about the dangers that their political propaganda can potentially lead Nigeria to, NIMEGG is ready to counter them bumper to bumper.

We have been waiting for Nigerian political and traditional leaders to call them to order; but, it is now clear even to the blind that Nigerian leaders see nothing wrong in CAN’s public display of political partisanship, bias, sentiments and insensitivity over the presidential ticket of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima. CAN has indefensibly thrown caution to the wind; therefore, NIMEGG and other groups of good conscience have consequently become duty-bound to place them where they truly belong.

Enough is enough; when we are talking about population, are they boasting of being more populous?

When we are talking about political grounds, they are no where to be found.

If Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Taraba where Muslims are in the majority can be governed by Christians (and even in Osun until in the recent past) and the Muslims did not protest, it is simply because we are for good governance and not like them that are in the business of using the apparatus of State for their not-so-surreptitious religious proselytization. Even in Ondo and Ekiti, the significant Muslim population there have repeatedly been denied the Deputy Governorship positions.

Let them be told that we can continue governing all the Muslim majority States mentioned, even by Muslim-Muslim tickets, and we will continue winning; infact, before any Christian becomes just a Local Government Chairman in those States, they will have to beg.

The leadership of CAN has been going too far! Even before the APC presidential primary election, they were calling on all their followers not to support any Muslim aspirant; but, the Almighty Allaah won the ticket for us by making many of their followers not to be bigoted like them. When Tinubu initially chose Aminu Masari as his temporary running mate, they kept quiet; but, immediately he selected Kashim Shettima which they knew is a popular and credible candidate, all hell was let loose, and that is to show the level of their hatred for Muslims and Islam. When Nuhu Ribadu chose Fola Adeola as his Presidential running mate in 2011, there was no hue and cry because they duo stood no chance in the presidential race even though they were both Muslims.

One good thing is that the whole world is watching their pedestrian partisanship, and everyone is keeping quiet; by the time the Muslims begin to fully counter them, they will start scampering helter skelter.

NIMEGG is poised to sensitize the entire Nigeria Muslims that we are going to put an end to all this pettiness of CAN.

They are used to tagging Muslims as fanatics even though what they have been doing is the real fanaticism.

Henceforth, be told that such manipulative language of trying to label us falsely cannot weaken us anymore.

If the All Progressives Congress (APC) decides to go for how to win elections, what is the problem of an association like CAN that has become so mundane to the extent that it has been working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a very long time? It is fascinating to note that it is now caught between working for the Labour Party (LP) and working for the PDP.

The only reality behind the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket is that it is the strategy to win the upcoming presidential election, and not based on any religious sentiments.

However, my disappointment about CAN is limited; my major disappointment is about the so-called weak Muslims that always ignorantly and indirectly fight against the interest of their religion just because of their care-free social way of life.

NIMEGG declares CAN as the real scam! The same body that denied Northern Christians any opportunity of becoming its President since inception, is now grumbling and wailing that a political party must take a Northern Christian to be its Vice-Presidential candidate; CAN is formed for political reasons and its leadership is working hard for mundane political interests, instead of concentrating on its core mandate of spiritual responsibilities.

Mall Abu Abdullah
